It's a watershed in movie history, the film that virtually created the "summer blockbuster" and kicked into high gear the directing career of Steven Spielberg. It's been studied, written about, and reviewed on its release as "an exhilarating adventure entertainment of the highest order." But let's face it, you want to see it for the sheer terror of its tale of a hungry Great White Shark wreaking havoc off the coast of Massachusetts. The New Yorker's Pauline Kael called it "the most cheerfully perverse scare movie ever made," and if you've never seen it on the big screen, do yourself a big favor. This is the kind of movie you want to see with a crowd in a dark theater, where the the thrills are magnified and the screams and nervous laughter are infectious!
